4 Advance in State Baseball Tournament

UTICA -- Four teams advanced in the championship round July 31 on the opening day of the New York State American Legion Baseball Tournament at Murnane Field here.

With rain soaking the second day of the tournament, only two games were played in the losers' round.

OPENING DAY

  • Middletown Post 151 blanked West Seneca Post 735, 6-0.
  • Plattsburgh's Clinton County team beat Rochester's Ferris-Goodridge Post 330, 11-8.
  • Rome's Smith Post 24 defeated Vestal Post 89, 8-5.
  • East Greenbush's Melvin Roads Post 1213 trashed New Hartford Post 1376, 14-0.

In the Thursday's losers' round, West Seneca eliminated Vestal, 9-6, and New Hartford eliminated Ferris-Goodridge, 11-7. The other games were rained out.
