Croghan Color Guard Gets Award of Excellence

Color Guard honorees
CROGHAN --  New York State American Legion Commander Kenneth Governor brought his message of "Service First" to the local Legion Family in his visit to Lewis County Thursday, and took the opportunity to honor a Color Guard Unit here.

During dinner at Beaver River Post 1663 in Croghan, he presented the Beaver River Post Color Guard with the Department Commander's Award of Excellence. He cited the 25-member color guard's dedication to veterans, families and community, and the support of Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Final Honors, and all other American Legion and community-related ceremonies and services.

He also appealed to the audience to contact their congressional representatives to tell them to "act like adults," keep the good of the country in mind, get the government opened back up for business, and "not jeopardize our veterans and active duty personnel and their families" because they cannot agree on funding.
