Northport Post Plans $1 Million Renovation

NORTHPORT, NY -- Northport American Legion Post 694 is set to undergo a $1 million renovation that would improve accessibility for the aging, The Northport Patch reports. The installation of an elevator, upgrades to the electrical and heating systems, and a new entrance off the parking lot are included in the renovation, Past Commander and Project Chairman Jim Mahoney said.

"Nobody's getting any younger," he told the Patch, "so to have an elevator to take them from the parking lot to the meeting room is going to really help out."

The renovation is being funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. North Star Concrete Construction Corp. of Selden will be doing the work, expected to begin this spring and last about four months.
